Why Should I Pay Fire Dues?

Green County Fire and Rescue is a volunteer department that is funded minimally by the local governments and state assistance. In addition, billing for services and grants makes for another small portion of our budget. The main contributor and the financial assets that keep us in operation is the purchase of coverage and memberships from our local community. You are the ones that keep us in business. Unfortunately, many see us as a paid department with a million dollar budget. This is far from true. In fact, our operating budget is around $80,000. This is far lower than any other surrounding larger departments. This is also at minimal operations. Here are some facts, GCFR makes approximately 200+ incidents a year. Of those, around 85% to 90% are billable services. Here are some average costs.

Residential Structure Fire = $2,140.00

Motor Vehicle Collision / Extrication = $2,185.00

Wildland Fire / Uncontrolled Burn = $2,080.00

Motor Vehicle / Mobile Property Fire = $1,350.00

Our cost of annual membership is $70 for the first deed and $30 for each additional deed owned. For that small amount it is a 75% reduction in cost for any billable services. The cost per incident drops drastically. Take a look below.

Residential Structure Fire = $537.00

Motor Vehicle Collision / Extrication = $546.00

Wildland Fire / Uncontrolled Burn = $520.00

Motor Vehicle / Mobile Property Fire = $350.00

We need your help! Each year memberships are decreasing due to changes of address, individuals not understanding, and more. Help us so we can help you. Nobody expects an emergency to happen to them. When it does we will be there to help. However, it is our hope that you will take time to pay your dues to assist us in having quality service for our community.

NOTE: Residents that live in the city limits of Greensburg or that reside in the Summersville Jurisdiction do not pay dues to Green County Fire. If you do not know or need help please let us know.

Our Department History

Lawrence Gupton,

GCFR Fire Chief

Green County Fire and Rescue has proudly been serving our community since our incorporation in 1909. Article II of the original incorporation states our mission, “To join together to establish a fire department and to furnish fire protection, rescue services, and emergency services in general to the residents of Green County, Kentucky.” With one engine and a few dedicated individuals, our department has now grown to include an Engine, Water Tender, Wildland Pumper, Heavy Rescue Unit, Rescue UTV, and more. Our services include, but are not limited to, fire suppression, vehicle rescue/extrication, special response (swiftwater, ropes, search, hazardous materials, etc.), wildland fire, and much more. In addition, we also operate our training division, GC Fire and Safety Training. This allows us to train our community, new recruits, and experienced members. Through our in-house instructors and a network abroad, we can continue a legacy of quality service and training for our local area. If you have any questions about our role in the community or would like to schedule a visit of our station please contact us via this website or visit our training division site on Facebook, Green County Fire and Safety Training, @GCFDtraining.
